Plan what obstacles/activities you’d like to have as “jobs” for the scouts and gather materials.
We did:
- a stroller slalom around cones
- bean bag toss
- hula hoop jump
- lap run
- tell a joke or sing a song
- …
Decide how much you’ll pay for each “job,” you can also use tokens, beans, or something else to represent real money. We paid 10 cents each for the slalom, bean bags, and hula hoop jump, and 25 cents for the lap/joke/song station. Get items for your “store” and decide how much they’ll cost. The Dollar Store items, pieces of candy, or other low cost items work well. We had 6 different items priced at 10 cents, 15 cents and 30 cents. You can also consider donation groups instead of items to buy and kids can pick which organization they want to donate their earnings to.
Have scouts help clean up if applicable. Examine what they purchased, what they saved/shared if applicable. Talk about any big ideas around wage inequity experiment or slavery/servitude experience as well.
